The Father of Christian Hip Hop

The Father of Christian Hip Hop

Father: the oldest or most respected member of a society or other body. Every music genre has a “father”. The father of Modern Pop was Micheal Jackson and the father of Christian Hip Hop (CHH) is undeniably Lecrae. Before becoming a rapper, Lecrae would lead youth groups and be incredibly active in his church. A simple YouTube search for Lecrae’s childhood would give you all the evidence you would ever need. Lecrae released his first hip hop track in 2006. For those that are not mathematically blessed, that’s 13 years of making Christian Hip Hop. In the meantime, Lecrae has founded his own record label called Reach Records. On this record label, he has the most popular artists in Christian Hip Hop from Andy Mineo to Wande to 1k Phew. In many ways, Lecrae himself is the biggest act in Christian Hip hop. It is very abnormal to have a very successful roster of artists since the signed artist is often overshadowed by the founding artist (Cash Money Records, Roc Nation). With all these accomplishments it is no wonder that Lecrae is the father of Christian Hip Hop.
