Most of us haven't thought about Myspace in years, but the website is back in the spotlight; unfortunately for them it's not for good reasons. About a year after artists noticed links to their content on Myspace weren't working, Myspace has announced that any media (photographs, audio, and video) posted on the website between 2003 and 2015 was lost in server migrations. Myspace said in their announcement this week, "As a result of a server migration project, any photos, video, and audio files you uploaded more than three years ago may no longer be available on or from Myspace... We apologize for the inconvenience and suggest that you retain your backup copies (Rolling Stone)." It is estimated that, among other content lost, 50 million songs by 14 million artists were lost in the server migration. Hopefully at least some of those 14 million artists had their music saved in another location; this incident is a shocking reminder that even in the digital age, nothing lasts forever.
