Artists We're Into

Updated: Nov 2, 2018

Here are some great artists that we are currently listening to. Check out our "Artists" page to give them a listen!

Maggie Rogers

This artist is incredibly fresh and unique. Incorporating chill, alternative indie vibes with a sort of upbeat pop sound, she provides the perfect background for a road trip. Listening to Maggie Rogers makes me want to hop in the car and just start driving.Originally based in Maryland, Maggie Rogers mixes aspects of her roots such as banjo and traces of folk with more modern pop and electric elements, constantly referencing themes of love, nature, and travel. Overall, her sound is a raw, earthy, and full of soul, but incorporates modern electric tones at the same time. Personally, my favorite part about her music is its’ progression. For example, in “Alaska,” the underlying rhythm sounds like a sort of catchy marching sound. It implies a tone of travel and adventure while also telling a story at the same time. I have never heard an artist quite like Maggie Rogers. I love the combination of soulful singing and unique instrumentation that her music provides. I have been listening to her most recent song “Falling Water” on repeat, where she incorporates both strong vocals while creating a chorus that is memorable and catchy. Currently, she is on tour throughout both the UK and the United States. Don’t miss out on giving Maggie Rogers a listen!

Oh Wonder

Based in London, this singer-songwriter duo provides a unique sound that combines impressive instrumentation with more modern, alternative, chill, electric vibes. Their songs “Drive” and “Without You” are my favorite songs to dance to or sing at the top of my lungs. In fact, the first song I ever heard by this band was “Drive.” After hearing it for the first time, I proceeded to turn it up every single time I got in the car for months. The hook is extremely catchy. It’s impossible not to sing along! Across all of their songs, they make use of violin, piano, and drums in combination with light, wispy harmonies and gradual underlying electric elements. Their first album Oh Wonder (2015) produces sounds with more prominent qualities of instrumentation with underlying elements of electric groove sounds. Their new album Ultralife (2017) encompasses the same sound but pushes production even further in an electric, upbeat direction. Overall, the great thing about this duo is their ability to find the perfect balance between the “pop” and “alternative” genre. You won’t find any artist that sounds quite like Oh Wonder. I highly recommend giving them a listen!

Del Water Gap

This artist has an indie, classic, alternative rock jam essence with lyrics and melodies that are real, raw, and meaningful. I love how unique his sound is. Music from Del Water Gap is great to listen to while sitting back and chilling out. Fun fact, as the artist is based in New York, “Del Water Gap” is named for the river valley gap in between the states of New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Melodies from this artist are generally either upbeat and jammy or slow moving and soulful. Listening to his music is so relatable and down to earth in a way that it makes me think the band could be anybody’s great friend. Songs from this artist generally incorporate heavy use of acoustic and electric guitar, drums, keyboard, and the occasional trumpet. Overall, their sound could be defined as “classic indie rock.” I love how simple their lyrics and overall sound are-simple enough but also unique and compelling. I would definitely recommend checking them out on Spotify. As an added bonus, Spotify provides a separate playlist created by the band. While the playlist is called “Background Music For Kissing,” I personally think it’s great background music for just a lazy day or studying- although it could be used for the recommended purpose as well. Either way, this band is definitely worth the listen. Surely, Del Water Gap will provide you with a listening experience that won’t disappoint.

  • “Let's Pretend”

  • “Be My Own”

  • “Dierdre, Pt. 1”
