Top 5 Christian Rappers

Lecrae, is a perfect sample. He recently put out a release with popular hip hop producer “Zaytoven”

Christian rap is rap characterized with biblical values and beliefs. Slowly but surely, Christian rap artists are becoming more mainstream. Increasingly, Christian hip hop is being defined as hip hop that does not place an emphasis on money, women, drugs, or fame. We are seeing mainstream artists bridge this Gap but mentioning biblical values in their rap. On Lil Skies new album, “I”, he states “I don’t need face, I need faith”. Since Christian rap is a growing trend, you are most likely wondering who are the artists to listen to. Without further ado, here is a top 5 list of rappers to start:

1. Lecrae

A top ten Christian hip hop list would not be complete without mentioning Lecrae. Lecrae has 12 albums to listen to on Spotify not including his long list of features. He has spent years making Christian hip hop and is the most respected Christian rapper in the game. His Church Clothes album series is definitely a must listen to but his newest album (with Zaytoven) is “Let the Trap Say Amen”. Be careful because once you start listening you cannot stop. He has rapid fire bars, with contemporary urban beats combined with emphatic storytelling.

2. WHATURPG

WHATURPG is new to the hip hop scene but has been making music for a long while. He has two albums and a small list of singles. What makes WHATURPG is his Lil Pump sound combined with clever bars. What is even better is he does not always rap about Jesus or other Christian messages. Instead he raps about his past as an immigrant and how hard work and God allowed him to get where he is today. He just released his new album ”RAUL” and is definitely a must listen. WHATURPG is the new face of Christian hip hop so hop on the band wagon now before its to late.

3. Jon Keith

Born in San Diego, Jon Keith is a hip hop and RnB artist. Want chill music with some clever bars? Jon Keith is your guy. Seriously, this guy has some insane bars. Here’s an example: “I’m raisin the stake like a Philly Cheese”. Raising his steak in the game and a pun on Philly Cheese Steak… count me in. He released two albums last year and Honey blonde is my favorite.

4. Levi Parker

Levi is the new kid on the block. He has released single after single and is garnering major attention. He is 18 years old, goes to college at NAU, and is born in Arizona. He focuses on the struggles that Christians face in a secular world. I am beyond impressed by this guy and he will blow up mark my words.

5. Andy Mineo

Admittedly, I am not a fan of Andy Mineo. However, he has a HUGE following. He is one of the heavyweights of Christian rap and has a long catalog. He has done albums with Lecrae and Wordsplayed and his albums have received critical acclaim. Definitely a must listen to.
